GE Protimeter MMS2
The Complete Moisture Measurement System
It's been a few years since we've seen an update to Protimeter's moisture
meters. The SurveyMaster had the most recent update, making it one of the
most popular moisture meters that we offer. This time, Protimeter has
updated and revised the MMS Plus. The MMS Plus combines two different
search modes of moisture measurement and a hygrometer, making it a great
all-in-one tool that is ideal for any IAQ professional.

The new Protimeter MMS2
combines a moisture meter and hygrometer and has additional features that
the MMS Plus does not. The MMS2 is more rugged with a new durable design
and is very user friendly with an intuitive user interface with a fully
functional color screen. This meter is extremely easy to use with simple
menu features that are easy to navigate. It also features datalogging,
giving you the ability to store up to 8,000 readings including a date
and time stamp.
Four-In-One Moisture Measurement System
The MMS2 offers 4 different moisture measurement modes:
- Search Mode (Non-Penetrating)
Search mode detects sub surface moisture in relative terms. Search mode
is a quick and easy method for measuring moisture without causing damage
to the surface of the building material. The MMS2 can go as deep as 3/4"
in a wide range of solid building materials. The sensor is on the bottom
of the unit just like the Protimeter SurveyMaster and Aquant and is just
held against the surface of the material being tested. Readings are
displayed numerically together with a color coded bar for ease of
interpretation.
Green = safe (air dry)
Yellow = borderline
Red = damp or moist conditions

- Measure Mode (Penetrating)
Measure mode measures actual percent of moisture content in wood or the
percent Wood Moisture Equivalent (%WME) in a wide range of building
materials. WME values in the range of 6-99% are displayed numerically
together with a color coded bar for ease of interpretation (just like
the Protimeter SurveyMaster and Protimeter Mini moisture meters). Use
the built in pins or plug in heavy duty moisture probes for measuring
hard to reach areas. Measure mode can also be used to diagnose the full
extent of moisture damage and can monitor drying of building materials.
Additional accessories such as a hammer probe can be used to measure at deeper depths.

- Hygrometer Mode
The MMS2 can calculate and display ambient air temperature, relative
humidity (RH) and dew point with a removable and interchangeable sensor.
The short QuickStick that is supplied with the MMS2 can measure relative
humidity from 0-100% RH and from 0-50°C (32-122°F) ambient temperature.

- Infrared Surface Temperature Mode
New to the Protimeter line of moisture meters is a built-in infrared
sensor used to measure surface temperatures. The sensor is built into
the top of the unit for non-contact measurement. An integrated laser
pointer indicates the position of the temperature measurement and
carries a distance to spot ratio of 12:1. The surface temperature is
displayed together with the dew point temperature as well as the
difference between the surface and dew point temperatures. At a glance
the user can assess the risk of surface condensation or can confirm
that condensation is occurring.

What a great update to an already great product! You'll find that these
updates and upgrades make one of the best instruments in the industry
even better. You can find the new Protimeter MMS2
in our online store. They are ready and in stock. You can purchase online or by phone.
Thank you very much for your continued support as we begin writing next month's article!
